Tattoo Design Process

Tamara's design process is more than just a methodology; it's a journey she embarks on with each client, ensuring the final tattoo is not only a beautiful piece of art but a meaningful expression of the individual's story and personality. A combination of Tamara's consultative approach, her hybrid use of traditional sketching and digital design, along with her specialized shading technique and careful selection of tools, culminates in tattoos that are not just art pieces but personalized stories etched onto the skin. Each tattoo is a collaborative masterpiece, meticulously crafted to reflect the clients vision while showcasing Tamara's distinctive artistic flair and technical expertise.

In-depth Consultation

During the initial consultation, Tamara delves into the specifics of the desired tattoo, including location, colour, size, and overall vision, while also incorporating her expert recommendations to enhance the final piece. Following this, she embarks on a creative journey, starting with sketches based on the client's references and her own inspired research. These sketches evolve into detailed designs on her iPad, where Tamara's graphic design skills enable her to craft precise and harmonious compositions.

Techniques

A unique aspect of Tamara's tattooing technique is her adept use of whip shading, a method that sets her work apart in its ability to create dynamic, textured shadows that add life and dimension to each piece. Whip shading, characterized by its strategic use of dots and small strokes that vary in intensity, mimics the effects of a whip's strike - starting with a point of intense contact and fading outwards. This technique allows Tamara to achieve a gradient effect that seamlessly transitions from deep shadows to lighter tones, giving a sense of depth and realism to her designs.

Tools

Tamara's choice of needles is integral to her precision and  style. Depending on the tattoo design,  she sometimes likes to employs a 3RL (Round Liner) for crisp, clean line work, ensuring that every edge and contour is defined with clarity.

For shading, she would sometimes opt for a 5RS (Round Shader), which allows her to execute her whip shading technique with finesse, blending dots and strokes to create smooth gradients and textures that breathe life into the tattoo.
